Labiaplasty
Many women are concerned about the appearance of their external genitalia. This may follow child birth or may always have been a problem.
Mr Burge will discuss your specific problem with you and suggest appropriate surgery if indicated.
If there are problems with the internal genitalia (such as a muscle injury from childbirth) some patients may benefit from a joint procedure with a gynaecologist. Mr Burge works with Mrs Caroline Overton (http://www.caroline-overton.co.uk/) on such cases.
All surgery carries some risks. It is Mr Burge's responsibility to explain, minimise and, if necessary, deal with these risks.
The surgery can be performed as a day case using either local or general anaesthesia. Excess tissue is excised, preserving the nerve supply as much as possible. The remaining tissues are then reshaped and sutured, using absorbable stitches.
The wounds heal in about a week. Showers are encouraged during the period.
Risks include bleeding, infection and scarring.
Following the procedure Mr Burge will see you regularly, both while you are in hospital and afterwards.
